DEI Statement
The Dance Alabama! organization aims to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community within dance on UA’s campus through continued advocacy and outreach. We uphold these values and commit ourselves to openly discussing issues facing the arts regarding inequity, and exclusion, and work cohesively to create a safe space for all dancers and artists. We utilize our bodies and artistic ability to represent pressing issues regarding social change and progression. With the addition of our Advocacy Chair position for the 22-23 season, Dance Alabama! takes seriously DEI-related matters within the dance community and at The University of Alabama. This position actively enforces anti-prejudice and inclusivity as we aim to replace equality with equity continuously. We take steps forward in prioritizing our members' mental and physical health, work closely with the UA Theatre and Dance DEI Committee, develop events and communications regarding diversity, and build awareness for campus-wide DEI initiatives.
We never discriminate against any members or prospective students regarding race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation, body type, gender identity and expression, disability, religion, culture, marital status, economic status, creed, political ideology, or military status.
Dance Alabama! is committed to serving not only its members but faculty, staff, alumni, artists, and students in creating a safer, more accessible institution that puts diversity, equity, and inclusion at its forefront. Listed below are campus resources.
